While she would like to think so, Zola was not exactly the most graceful Tokota. In fact, it was not surprising that her ruckus woke up Liam, it was more surprising that she had not managed to do so long before that night. As odd as it seemed, fishing had somewhat of a solitary delight for the sphinx. She could sneak out of the stables during the night and just let her instincts take over, be improper as she feels without a second of judgement from anyone. For those brief hours she did not have to impress anyone, nor uphold her prized standard of beauty – she could be someone else.

“What are you doooin-“ Liam murmured in a tone far too loud for the hour, his own sentence cut off by a yawn. Zola instantly froze, as if she would turn invisible if she stood still enough. The sphinx had not realized her brother had awoken, even worse his positioning placed him between her and the stable exit. “Are you going on a midnight ride? Oh, I can come with! Where is Elise?” Again Liam’s voice was far too loud, Zola cringed as she saw ears of the others around them twitch, although let out a sigh of relief when it appeared that he had not woken anyone.

“Shhhh you idiot,” Zola whispered harshly slowly making her way to her brother, baring her teeth slightly in both frustration and as a sign of dominance. The longmane seemed to quiet in response, although he remained clearly confused. He looked at his sister, then at their handler who seemed beyond asleep curled up beside their mother. Luckily it seemed Lavena was far more lost in a slumber than anyone else, letting out the odd snore before snuggling closer to Elise. “This does not involve you, go back to sleep you overfluffed doofus.” With that the sphinx continued to sneak closer to the exit.

“Fine,” Liam snorted, while his volume was louder than a whisper, it remained worrisome. “Then mum won’t mind if I let her know you’re gone…” Zola’s stance dropped and she gave him a defeated glare, one which was promptly responded to with a toothy smile. It was not like Liam to go against anyone; his demeanour was generally submissive and eager to please. But lately he was feeling a bit trapped and was eager for any excuse to get out – even if it was the middle of the night.

“Ugghhh, fine you brat,” the sphinx rolled her eyes motioning for her brother to follow as she managed her way to the exit, checking back once to ensure they had not woken anyone else up, and then picking up her pace. Liam followed eagerly behind, his tail wagging excitedly as he followed his sister. The night was alive and he was excited to be out. It was not like he did not make it out often, it was more that he was young, and the outdoors was insatiable to a pup. The night was a new experience to him, Elise was adamant about getting her beauty-sleep, and they were lucky to get out before noon. It was full of new sounds and smells, familiar places seemed entirely new as they trotted through them.

“Where are we going?” Liam asked, he was not nervous, just confused by the whole experience. Zola gave no indication of slowing down, if anything picking up speed as they raced further and further.

“Fishing!” The sphinx announced, suddenly coming to a near stop as they reached a creek, looking back at the confused look upon her brother’s face. “What? You’ve never fished?”
